Join Us At The Bay Area Pet Fair & Adoptathon
Two Days of Fun, Celebration and Education
by Rachel Long

Don’t be surprised if your dog starts pulling you in the direction of San Rafael next month. She probably just wants to go to the Second Annual Bay Area Pet Fair & Adoptathon at the Marin Center! Animals from all around the Bay Area and thousands of their people will gather on September 8th and 9th to celebrate all things pet Attendees will not only hear from experts in the fields of training, education, rescue, dog sports and animal health, they’ll also meet hundreds of adoptable animals awaiting loving homes. And the Fair also features the greatest products and services for your furry family members.

“We are thrilled that so many groups are coming back this year. With over 150 adoptions last year, we know this is the place to find your new best friend for life,” said Sandy Lurins, Pet Fair Producer. She said sponsors are once again very enthused about the event, which so successfully brings members of the local pet community together. “Over 5,000 people participated last year, and we know this year’s assortment of products and services will lead to hundreds of happier, healthier pets.”

The focus of the Pet Fair is its giant, multi-agency Adoptathon. In 2006, 35 groups participated, making it the largest interagency adoption event in California. As with last year, this year’s agencies and rescue groups will not only have dogs available for adoption, but also cats, rabbits, birds and other good family pets. Lurins is proud of the community. “We will be bringing together some of the largest and oldest shelters and humane societies in the Bay Area with smaller, breed specific rescue groups. In an industry where shelters and rescues don’t often work side-by-side, we are excited that we can provide a forum for true collaboration. We’re also pleased that we can help these groups present their animals and programs to a much wider audience.”

New this year is The Other Dog Show, where shelter and rescue dogs will “compete” for Best in Show. Possible classes include Lapping Dogs, Belly Floppers, Good Manners, Giant Dogs and maybe even Best Non-Dog! The show runs both days, so come see these deserving animals enjoy their time in the spotlight!

The Second Annual Bay Area Pet Fair includes a program of great demonstrations, presentations and special activities in a variety of venues around the grounds.
